A local citizen has been arrested by the DeSoto Police Department in connection with an incident that took place at a Mosque in DeSoto.
As reported by The Desoto Tribune, the previously unidentified man allegedly made threats at the community center.
Officers arrested 48-year-old Demarcus Lamont Brodie on Feb.16 and charged him with issuing a Terroristic Threat.
Brodie allegedly made the threats against the Desoto House of Peace & Community Center on the 500 block of West Beltline Road according to a news release.
Brodie allegedly threatened to harm congregants and their families at the mosque police said.
On Tuesday, Feb. 14, surveillance cameras at the mosque captured Brodie’s image and the vehicle he left in according to police.
Images of Brodie were released on social media by police in an effort to ask for the publics help in finding the suspect.
DeSoto Police thanked residents who came forward with information.
“DeSoto Police shared some of these images on social media and are grateful to all of the community members who came forward to provide their input,” the statement read.
Joseph Acosta, Desoto Police Chief shared his thoughts on the police work it took to capture Brodie and thank the citizens of DeSoto as well.
“I would like to thank our officers and detectives for working quickly and diligently to track this man down and get him off the street. He is no longer a threat to our community,” said Acosta.
“I would also like to thank our residents who looked out for their neighbors and worked with us to help keep our community safe.”
The case will be presented to the US District Attorney’s Office for potential prosecution as a hate crime.
The Desoto Tribune Contacted the Desoto House of Peace & Community Center for comment, but none was received at time of publication.
