After making the playoffs, the Texas Rangers will head to Florida to take on the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field in a best-of-three AL Wildcard matchup.
It’s the first time the Rangers have made the playoffs since 2016.
They will be led by starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery (10-11, 3.20 ERA) and the Rays by Tyler Glasnow (10-7, 3.53 ERA).
After acquiring Montgomery in a trade, he has shown to be the best pitcher for the Rangers in the last couple of weeks.
The Rangers are riding the hot left arm of Montgomery, and the Rays will ride the righty Glasnow.
The ball club will also be relying on Nathan Eovaldi, arguably the team’s best pitcher, for most of the season.
Fans will also see the pitching consistency of Dane Dunning on the mound, along with a host of other pitchers.
The Rangers released the Wildcards’ full roster via social media as well as the game one depth chart against the Rays.
Tampa Bay won’t be an easy series for the Rangers as the Rays have been just as dominant and even more so at home.
The Rays finished with a record of (99-63) and have a home record of (53-28), making them a tough road opponent.
The Rangers were atop the AL West for 159 days, dominating each opponent and finishing with a record of (90-72) but are (40-41) on the road.
Both the Rangers and the Rays potentially have the best lineup in the American League and are roughly evenly matched, making this playoff series a fun one for fans to watch.
First pitch is Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 2 p.m.
