The DeSoto Eagles continue to dominate the field of play, as Friday night, they completely dominated Mansfield Legacy, defeating the Broncos 64-3.
Homecoming night was spoiled for the Broncos as the defending Class 6A Division II Champion imposed their will on offense and defense.
The Eagles set the tone early, scoring four times in the first quarter.
By halftime, DeSoto led Mansfield 57-0.
“Great game so far,” said DeSoto Alum Corey Borner.
“They’re scoring on all cylinders and doing what they need to do.”
In the route of the Broncos, seven different Eagles players scored.
DeSoto’s own Antonio Pride Jr. returned the Bronco’s first punt of the game for an 84-yard touchdown.
Quarterback DJ Bailey completed 9 of 13 passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns, and Senior Chad Williams saw playing time, completing two passes and a touchdown.
The Eagle’s running attack didn’t slow down as Deandre Riden Jr. carried the ball just seven times for 75 yards and two touchdowns.
But Riden Jr. would not stay in the game after getting injured. He left the game with 2:34 in the first quarter and did not return.
The Eagles continue to soar as they have now outscored opposing teams 255-76.
DeSoto Coach Claude Mathis said after the game how he is proud of his team and the way they played.
“The kids played well and had a great week executing in practice, and we came out there and did a heck of a job in all three phases tonight,” said Mathis.
“The kids deserve it because they practice hard all week, and then you try to pull it back because the score is getting out of hand. I’m glad it worked out well, and they understand. It is hard, but I have great kids.
DeSoto remains undefeated at 5-0 and 3-0 in district play.
The Eagles host Mansfield Lake Ridge for homecoming on Oct. 13. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
