CEDAR HILL – DeSoto (7-0) (5-0) pushed past cross-town rivals Cedar Hill in the Battle of Beltline, defeating the Longhorns (3-5) (2-3) on the road 35-13.

The win over Cedar Hill sets up one of the most highly anticipated matchups with top-ranked Duncanville next week.

It was a gritty matchup between the Eagles and the Longhorns under a clear Friday night sky. Although it wasn’t a pretty game, nor was it DeSoto’s finest game, as Cedar Hill made it tough to pull out the win.

DeSoto had 243 total yards in the first half while holding the Longhorns to 91.

But the Eagles were penalized eight times for 110 yards.

By halftime, DeSoto led Cedar Hill 21-7.

The Longhorns showed grit against the Eagles as DeSoto pulled away in the second half.

But Cedar Hill wouldn’t go away easily as the Longhorns tried to mount a comeback scoring on a 19-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Anthony Edwards to receiver Kymeion Turner to make it 13 -28.

Player of the game and DeSoto running back Marvin Duffey led the way for the Eagles, finishing with 17 carries, 174 yards, and three touchdowns, including a 56-yard score to make it 35-13.

Eagles quarterback DJ Bailey finished the game, completing 15 of 20 passes for 212 yards and a rushing touchdown.

DeSoto wideout Antonio Pride finished the game catching 11 passes for 185 yards to help move the ball against the Longhorns.

Each team collected a turnover with Cedar Hill recovering a fumble and DeSoto collecting an interception.

DeSoto’s defense has been stellar all season long, holding its opponents 92 points.

The win sets up one of the most highly anticipated matchups in Texas with the number one ranked team in the state Duncanville (7-0) (5-0), against number three ranked DeSoto (7-0) (5-0) according to TexasFootball.com.
