Independent Sector and SVP Dallas Partner for 2023 Upswell Summit

In an exciting development, Independent Sector, a national champion for nonprofits, and Social Venture Partners (SVP) Dallas, whose focus is on helping individuals realize the greater impact of their giving, are coming together for an exciting collaboration for the 2023 Upswell Summit.

The Upswell Summit is a prestigious national gathering that is bringing together nonprofit visionaries and changemakers, slated to take place from November 15 to 17.

Cross-sector leaders taking stage include Microsoft, Aspen Institute, The Chronicle of Philanthropy, Native Ways Federation, AmeriCorps, along with many more to offer candid insights about the health and future of the charitable sector.

This progressive partnership will combine programming and key elements of SVP Dallas’s foremost annual social impact conference, bigBANG!Tx, into the 2023 Upswell Summit.

Introduced in 2018 as a reinvention of the Independent Sector Annual Conference, Upswell emphasizes a community-driven and place-based approach in its annual gatherings.

The three-day event is set to bring together over 650 of the top non-profit leaders, corporate changemakers and community leaders from across the nation to discuss issues pertaining to non-profit advocacy and non-profit trust and impact.

“We’re grateful to have SVP Dallas as a strategic thought partner for Upswell 2023,” said Dr. Akilah Watkins, president and CEO of Independent Sector.

“Our missions are quite aligned to ensuring the local leaders who hold the wisdom and experience to tackle our biggest problems are at the center of our innovation and solutions to create a just nation where all people thrive.”

Since 2018, Upswell has successfully convened over 12,500 change-makers both in person and virtually.

“We are excited to welcome Independent Sector to Dallas/Fort Worth, and we are committed to collaborating with them and so many of our local partners and supporters to make this convening a meaningful experience for all participants,” said Tony Fleo, CEO of SVP Dallas.

“SVP Dallas has a well-earned reputation for being a catalyst for meaningful change and impact, and this collaboration with Independent Sector is another excellent opportunity to welcome a national lens on local, innovative social justice and equity solutions while informing our thinking throughout the year and on the bigBANG! stage in October 2024.”

From community activists, nonprofit leaders, philanthropists, business and corporate leaders, academics, and journalists, many gather at Upswell to share ideas and build relationships.

The summit focuses on strengthening the collective sense of belonging and trust, prioritizing self and community care, and building a healthy and racially just society.

“This collaboration can serve as a model for the way national and local organizations bring their efforts together to ensure a high-quality program for all social changemakers,” said Watkins.
