The DeSoto High School Eagles have obtained perfection in the regular season, being crowned 6A Region II District 11 Champions after going 9-0 this season.
In the last game of the regular season, the DeSoto Eagles did not let up as they defeated the Mansfield Tigers on the road 63-24.
It was all DeSoto early as the Eagles scored and scored often, as they have done all season long.
The first Eagle’s score came off of a 16-yard touchdown by senior running back Marvin Duffey to give DeSoto an early 7-0 lead.
DeSoto scored four more times before Mansfield would get on the board to make it 35-7 in the first half alone.
Before halftime, DeSoto’s own DJ Baily threw four touchdown passes, two to wideout Daylon Singleton, who continues to impress on the field.
And one to wideout Antonio Pride and one to Eathen Fester.
DeSoto remained dominant as towards the end of the first half, after a Mansfield touchdown, the Eagles responded in kind with a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Pride.
By halftime, the Eagles led the Tigers 49-17 at the half.
DeSoto running back Deondre Riden Jr., nicknamed Tiger, made his surprise return to the field against Mansfield, carrying the ball just three times.
The Eagle’s offense continued to dominate as Bailey had a huge game, completing 13 of 20 passes for 326 yards and five touchdowns.
Duffey carried the ball 10 times for 100 yards, scoring two touchdowns.
The receiving for the Eagles was on full display as four different receivers scored for DeSoto.
DeSoto’s defense remained dominant, just as they have done so all year, having held opponents to just 35 points or less.
The defense forced two turnovers.
DeSoto has outscored its opponents by a combined score of 466-151.
