The City of DeSoto is hosting a community engagement and collaboration event on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at the historical Nance Farms.

The community meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at 1325 Greenbrook Dr.

The city adopted a new Nance Farm Master Plan on February 21, 2023.

This event marks yet another step in the city’s ongoing efforts to redefine and enhance the future of Nance Farm.

The city is looking to transform the historical landmark into a thriving community arts and cultural center.

Dubbed the city’s Master Plan Consultants, these advisors have been entrusted with refining the development plan.

Since the July community meeting, they have integrated the valued insights from residents according to the city.

The revision of the master plan aims to align with the desires and needs of the neighborhood, ensuring that the envisioned changes resonate with the community.

However, some residents in the Mantlebrook neighborhood are divided about the future development of the landmark.

Nearby residents have voiced concerns over the extra foot traffic the development could bring as well as the lack of availability for parking.

But the city say the plan to revitalize the landmark is to provide opportunities and to utilize the site for community engagement and activities related to both art and history.

Residents are invited and encouraged to attend this community meeting on Wednesday.

The community meeting offers the opportunity for residents to witness the revised plan firsthand and actively participate in further input on the future of Nance Farm.

The city hopes that attendees share their thoughts, ideas, and concerns to foster an inclusive and collaborative approach to reimagining this community space.

The Nance Farms master plan aims to show the city’s commitment to a transparent and community-driven decision-making processes.

Nance Farms was designated as a Recorded Texas Historical Landmark in 1976.
