DeSoto High School won’t have to travel far as they take on Wylie East in the second round of the UIL 6A District II tournament.
In a pivotal playoff matchup, the #1 team in Texas, the DeSoto Eagles, are set to clash with the Wylie East Raiders.
DeSoto enters the contest undefeated, showcasing an impressive track record both at the state and national levels.
Winning it all in the 2022-2023 campaign, the Eagles look to defend their 6A District II title against Wylie East.
The Raiders enter the matchup with a 10-1 record, having only lost to Sachse, 20-7 in September.
According to Maxpreps.com, Wylie East averages 43 points per game, and DeSoto nearly 52 points per game.
DeSoto averages nearly 280 rushing yards per game while Wylie East averages nearly 180 rushing yards per game.
The Eagles passing game led by DJ Baily averages over 230 passing yards per game as the Raiders are averaging nearly 150 per game.
Both teams come into the matchup with high-scoring offenses, but DeSoto averages nearly 47 points per game and Wylie East at nearly 35 points per game.
DeSoto’s running game has been bolstered as Deondre Riden Jr. rejoined the starting lineup after nursing an elbow injury sustained early in the season.
Riden rejoined the starting lineup against Harker Heights to help lift the Eagles over the Knights in DeSoto’s playoff debut.
Kick-off is scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. at Choctaw Stadium in Arlington, which promises a display of high school football powers.
