The DeSoto Eagles are taking on the Cedar Hill Longhorns in the Battle of Beltline II Friday night in a highly anticipated playoff matchup.
It is a rematch from a game earlier in the season that saw DeSoto win bragging rights against their cross-town rivals.
DeSoto is ranked #5 nationally and remains the best in Texas at #1, according to MaxPreps.com
The Eagles defeated the Longhorns 35-13 in their first matchup in what has been dubbed the Battle of Beltline.
It was one of the grittier games for DeSoto, marred by penalties, and was closer than the final score would appear.
The Eagles finished the game garnering a total of 482 offensively to Cedar Hills’ 241.
DeSoto moved the ball steadily on the ground, amassing 285 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns.
Cedar Hill only garnered 54 rushing yards for the entire game.
However, this time around, the Longhorns will have their starting quarterback, Anthony Edwards, bouncing back from surgery for compartment syndrome.
Since Edwards’s return, the Longhorns have put up scores of 62, 59, and 28 points in the last three weeks.
The Eagles have their 4-star running back, Deondrae Riden Jr., back in the backfield, as the running game has been firing on all cylinders for DeSoto.
DeSoto averages nearly 52 points per game.
Defeating previously unbeaten Willis, 65-31, DeSoto looks to keep soaring high and defending their Class 6A Division II title.
