DeSoto Unites for Annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Block Party

DeSoto residents came together for a memorable celebration as the city hosted its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony and block party.

The festive event took place in the heart of DeSoto at city hall on Dec. 4.

On a frosty and cold winter night, families and neighbors gathered to witness the official start of the Christmas season as the Christmas tree was illuminated with dazzling lights and decorations.

The ceremony was a symbol of unity and community spirit.

“We know that this is the start of the holiday season, and we start there by lighting our Christmas tree, and so it’s a very nostalgic time,” said Mayor Rachel Proctor.

“I love the holidays, and I know for kids it’s about Santa a lot of times, and even for adults it’s about making memories with your family, and as we light the tree tonight, I’m going to ask everybody to remember those people that are facing challenges this holiday season and remember the loved ones that we have lost throughout the years.”

Following the tree lighting, the festivities continued with a lively block party that featured local vendors, food stalls, and an ice-skating performance by Emma Pratt.

Pratt is nationally ranked and a five-time champion figure skater and ice dancer.

Attendees also enjoyed a special performance from vocalist Tyrese Franklin from Community Missionary Baptist Church that added to the joyous atmosphere, creating a sense of togetherness.

City officials and residents expressed their delight at the event, emphasizing the importance of fostering community connections during the holiday season.

As the holiday season unfolds, the event remains a cherished memory for DeSoto residents who participated in the festive occasion.
