The DeSoto High School Speech and Debate Team soared to success at the April 6 Lincoln-Douglas Debate competition, securing a spot in the top six out of 32 participating teams.
The team clinched first place in persuasive speaking, and sophomore Jamar Carden placed among the top three speakers out of a total of 30 contestants.
Jada’Chris Easter, also a sophomore, placed in the top six in the Lincoln-Douglas Debate out of 36 participants, earning a coveted medal.
With their recent success, the DHS Eagles Debate team advanced to the regionals scheduled to be held at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, on April 27.
Judy Nance, the sponsor of DeSoto High School Speech and Debate, expressed confidence in the team’s potential to excel further.
“The team has a solid opportunity to advance to the state-level competition set to take place the weekend of May 16 and 17,” the statement read.
