President Joe Biden has signed H.R. 815, the National Security Supplemental, which provides foreign aid to Ukraine, into law. Wednesday.
The bill provides billions of dollars of new U.S. aid to Ukraine for its war with Russia and notches a bipartisan win for the president as he is seeking reelection.
“There are reports of cheers breaking out of the trenches in eastern Ukraine — probably came from one of your folks — a reporter or someone, I’m not sure where it came from. But that they’re cheering as they watch the House vote in support for Ukraine,” Biden said in a statement.
“In the next few hours — literally, the few hours — we’re going to begin sending in equipment to Ukraine for air defense; munitions for artillery, for rocket systems; and armored vehicles.”
H.R. 815 also provides aid to Israel as fighting in the Middle East is ramping up, most recently with Iran launching hundreds of missiles at Israel and Israel retaliating, bombing an Iranian airbase.
A separate bill tied to the legislation bans TikTok, the popular social media app that nearly 150 million Americans use for news, socializing, earning income, and much more.
The move bans TikTok in the United States if its owner, the Chinese tech firm ByteDance, fails to divest the popular app over the next nine months to a year.
The bill, widely unpopular amongst many American people, comes at a time when border security remains at an all-time high, many Americans struggle to make ends meet, and are on the doorstep of another world war.
The social media platform is widely popular among Americans from different political backgrounds, as well as Biden’s 2024 campaign, which recently joined the app.
