The City of DeSoto and the DeSoto Police Department will host the upcoming 2024 Texas Police Games. The Texas Athletic Federation announced the decision in its newsletter.
The Texas Police Games is a well-organized competitive event that provides commissioned police officers with the opportunity to compete with their peers from across Texas and the nation.
The concept of promoting physical fitness through athletic competition among law enforcement originated in California.
The idea was spearheaded by Duke Nyhus, an Assistant Chief in San Diego, who founded the California Police Athletic Federation in 1966.
The multi-day event will begin on Sunday, June 9, and conclude on Friday, June 14. Arlington and Grand Prairie are slated to host several of the events.
On the first day of the games, eventgoers will see the men and women in blue participate in CrossFit, Body Building, Billiards, Disc Golf, and Motorcycle Rodeo.
The Texas Athletic Federation has added several new events this year, some of which have become very popular in recent months.
The events added this year include pickleball, cornhole, swimming, cycling events, police bike, and gravel bike races.
Attendees will have a chance to witness how officers of the law train and keep themselves in peak physical fitness.
As law enforcement from around the country descend upon DeSoto, these games provide a glimpse into the rigorous training officers endure as well as the camaraderie within law enforcement.
