COLLEGE STATION – As Hurricane Beryl has been downgraded to a tropical storm after hammering the Texas coast leaving millions without power, DeSoto Firefighters continue to aid East Texas residents in the aftermath of the storm.
From emergency response to recovery efforts, DeSoto Fire Rescue is helping in assisting the millions of people without power in East Texas.
DeSoto Fire Rescue has begun helping residents with cleaning up storm damage and other essential tasks according to updates.
The team deployed one of its reserve fire engines and four department members ahead of Hurricane Beryl as part of a Strike Team.
This team, organized under the Texas Interstate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS), includes firefighters from Arlington, Midlothian, Grand Prairie, Fort Worth, and College Station.
Additionally, DeSoto Fire Rescue sent a firefighter to join others from Cedar Hill and Duncanville on Cedar Hill’s AMBUS.
The AMBUS is a large ambulance capable of transporting more than ten patients simultaneously.
The deployment is typically expected to last 14 days, but the duration may be extended based on the needs of the affected areas, according to city officials.
In the wake of the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, the storm has left millions of Texans without power as the state faces the summertime heat.
Temperatures are expected to soar into the 90s with added humidity that could make it feel as hot as 105 degrees.
