Former president Donald Trump survived what is believed to be an assassination attempt on his life on Saturday.

During the former president’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania five gunshots were heard before the Secret Service covered Trump.

As Trump spoke to his supporters, gunshots could be heard and just seconds later the former president could be seen grabbing his ear as bullets whizzed by nearly grazing him.

Moments later the Secret Service could be seen covering Trump as other agents returned fire striking and killing the shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks.

“The FBI has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the subject involved in the assassination attempt of former president Donald Trump on July 13, in Butler, Pennsylvania, “the FBI said in a statement to Fox News digital.

Just hours after facing an assassination attempt, Trump took to Truth Social to thank law enforcement.

“I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania,” said Trump.

“Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country.”

Trump also let his supporters and followers know his condition following the shooting.

“Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead,” Trump said. “I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”

One person at the rally died in the shooting, according to the Secret Service, and two others were critically injured.
