The City of DeSoto is once again set to receive a prestigious honor, this time being designated as a Purple Heart City.
The recognition acknowledges the sacrifices of our nation’s veterans and active-duty military personnel who have been wounded or killed in combat.
The ceremony will take place on August 6, 2024, at 6:00 PM at DeSoto City Hall and residents are encouraged to attend the event.

The Purple Heart Medal, established by General George Washington in 1782 as the Badge of Military Merit, is the oldest military award still given to service members.

In Nov. 2023, the city hosted a special ceremony honoring long-time resident and Vietnam Veteran James Baylor.
Baylor served during the Vietnam War as a member of the Rakkasans and the United States Army’s 187th Infantry Regiment.
In a long overdue ceremony, after 54 years, Baylor received recognition from the United States for his service and heroism during the Battle of Hamburger Hill.
