Emerald Hill Energy Storage has addressed recent rumors that it has reportedly notified residents that the city supports the proposed lithium battery facility in the town.

After the city of DeSoto released a statement addressing the rumors, Emerald Hill released its own statement.

“Since August 2023, the Emerald Hill Energy Storage team has prioritized transparent and honest communication with the DeSoto community. We’ve actively encouraged public participation and maintained respectful dialogue through community meetings, individual conversations, and direct mail pieces. At no time did we claim any endorsement from city staff or officials,” the statement reads.

We recognize that our use of the term ‘partnership’ may have led to misunderstandings. We are updating our messaging and will continue to do so as we receive feedback. We are committed to addressing community concerns and providing clear information about the project and its benefits.”

Emerald Hill Energy Storage also clarified the timeline and nature of its interactions with the city.

A development review committee meeting between city staff and the Emerald Hill Energy Storage team was held virtually on August 3, 2023, and again on September 25 and 26.

During these meetings, city staff informed Emerald Hill that the project would require a Specific Use Permit and recommended robust community engagement before submitting their application.

In line with this recommendation, Emerald Hill said that it hosted two community meetings and participated in four additional open meetings with local organizations.

The company has also stated that it communicated to residents that the development team persuaded the existing landowner to provide a drainage easement to the City of DeSoto, at the request of city staff.

The proposed lithium battery storage facility near DeSoto High School has been a topic of concern among residents.

There has been apprehension expressed among residents regarding the facility’s proximity to both the school and residential areas.

A petition opposing the project has garnered over 400 signatures, highlighting the community’s unease.

In their statement, Emerald Hill emphasized their ongoing commitment to transparency and community engagement.

The company looks to address concerns and ensure that residents are well-informed about the project’s potential benefits.

Residents are encouraged to participate in future meetings and dialogues to voice their opinions and gain a clearer understanding of the proposed facility.
