The construction of the new Recreation and Aquatic Center at Curtistene S. McCowan Park, located between Uhl Road and Academy Way, is officially underway.
Following the approval of the construction contract by the DeSoto City Council on May 7, 2024, the project broke ground on July 15, 2024, marking the beginning of a significant development.
DeSoto City Councilmember for Place 3 Nicole Raphiel spoke with The DeSoto Tribune about the project and what it means to have a significant achievement in her district.
The groundbreaking development will serve not only the DeSoto community but the surrounding communities as well.
The new center will feature a state-of-the-art aquatic facility, including a natatorium, as part of its offerings.
To date, the water tie-in on Academy Way has been completed, while current efforts focus on grading the job site and trenching for a new 12-inch water main line.
With most of the major construction work still ahead, the project is anticipated to be completed by February 2026.
Once finished, the Recreation and Aquatic Center is expected to become a key recreational hub for residents, offering a range of amenities and activities.
