DeSoto High School Lockdown Lifted Following Firearm Threat

Today DeSoto High School was temporarily placed on lockdown this morning following an anonymous tip that a student might be armed with a firearm on campus.

The DeSoto Police Department responded to the tip, increasing their presence at the high school as a precaution.

The school lockdown was put into place while police investigated the report.

Authorities investigated the threat from the student and discovered that the student in question was not on campus.

Authorities also discovered that the student had been unenrolled from the high school.

Following this discovery, the lockdown was lifted, but police maintained a presence in the area to ensure safety.

By 11:10 a.m., DeSoto Police working with the student’s guardian located and detained the 16-year-old former student.

The police confirmed that there was no ongoing threat to students or the public at any time during the incident.

Further details about the circumstances of the tip or the detention have not been released.

DeSoto ISD used social media as another form to communicate with the parents and the community about the social media threat.

The threat comes almost a week after a school shooting that left four people dead and nine more injured at Apalachee High School in Georgia.
