DeSoto residents could soon see an increase in their water and sewer bills as the city has announced a proposed 9% increase in water and sewer rates for the fiscal year 2025 (FY-25).
The rate hike is based on a comprehensive study conducted by an independent third-party consultant, which highlighted the need for an adjustment to address rising costs.
The proposed increase will assist the Public Utilities Department in maintaining its current level of service while managing the escalating expenses associated with purchasing water from wholesale providers, including Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) and the Trinity River Authority (TRA).
The new rates will affect various categories of users.
For users consuming between 0-1,000 gallons, the current average monthly charge of $23.51 will increase by $2.12, bringing the new monthly total to $25.63, reflecting a 9% increase.
Average residential users, who typically use around 7,500 gallons of water and 4,200 gallons of sewer, will see their monthly bill rise from $88.74 to $96.73, also a 9% increase.
Commercial customers with a 2-inch meter, typically using around 60,700 gallons of water and 52,800 gallons of sewer, will experience a 5% increase, with their bill going from $1,124.85 to $1,180.34, an increase of $55.49.
