DeSoto ISD Enforces New Safety Guidelines Ahead of Homecoming

DeSoto ISD has announced comprehensive guidelines ahead of homecoming to ensure a secure and enjoyable experience for all attendees at home sporting events.

Key policies cover stadium entry, bag restrictions, student conduct, and spectator behavior.

The district has implemented a strict stadium bag policy, allowing only clear bags up to 12” x 6” x 12,” small clutches, or clear plastic freezer bags.

Backpacks, coolers, and other large bags are prohibited, with exceptions for medically necessary items after inspection.

All DeSoto ISD students and staff must wear district-issued identification badges for entry, with metal detectors and security checks at each gate.

Students in grades K-8 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and seating during the game is mandatory.

Concessions are available, but students lingering in concourse areas will be removed.

Additionally, security measures, including designated exits and hand stamps, are in place to ensure controlled movement in gyms and stadiums.

The district also emphasizes good sportsmanship, expecting attendees to be respectful during national anthems and performances and avoid negative behaviors like booing or using inappropriate language.

Violations of these rules may result in removal and future attendance restrictions.

During the press conference, DeSoto ISD Superintendent Dr. Usamah Rogers addressed the issue as the Dallas ISD community is mourning the loss of David Washington, a senior at Kimball High School.

Washington was fatally shot last Friday.

Amidst these challenges, DeSoto High School is preparing for its homecoming football game against Mesquite High School with added security measures.

The district implemented the protocols, including mandatory school-issued identification for all students attending the game two years ago, and has since then added to the measures.

The district has also restricted access to certain areas of the stadium.
