The Dallas Mavericks have unveiled their 2024 Nike NBA City Edition uniforms, dubbed the “Trinity River Blues Collection,” in homage to the North Texas roots of American blues music.
This year’s collection marks the eighth edition of the Nike NBA City Edition series, which honors each team’s unique history, community, and culture.
North Texas played a foundational role in the development of blues music, with iconic musicians like Blind Lemon Jefferson, T-Bone Walker, and Stevie Ray Vaughan shaping the genre’s evolution.
T-Bone Walker, a Dallas native, pioneered electric blues and influenced the rock ‘n’ roll movement with his showmanship in the 1930s and ’40s.
Other influential figures, including Freddie King, Jimmie Vaughan, and ZZ Hill, continued this legacy, solidifying Dallas-Fort Worth as a significant contributor to blues and modern music.
The Mavericks have teamed up with Grammy Award-winning North Texas native Leon Bridges to celebrate the cultural impact of these blues legends.
The Trinity River Blues Collection reflects the influence of local musicians whose work spans genres, including rock, country, and R&B.
“I’m so excited to be running it back for an encore with the Mavs City Edition, continuing the story of Dallas-Ft.Worth’s deep connection to Rhythm and Blues,” said Bridges.
“The Mavs and Nike have given me a unique opportunity to represent the musicians that have led the way and connect all of us to the rich history of music in North Texas. Let’s bring a title home!”
To mark the launch of this year’s City Edition collection, the Mavericks will host a special pregame celebration at the American Airlines Center’s South Plaza, presented by Chime.
Fans are invited to join the festivities on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 5 to 7 p.m., ahead of the evening’s game.
The event will feature music, interactive activities, and an opportunity for fans to connect with the team and the rich cultural heritage represented in the new collection.
The Mavericks hope the Trinity River Blues Collection will not only energize their fans but also honor the profound musical legacy of North Texas and inspire a new generation to appreciate the region’s contributions to American music.
