The Dallas Stars win big at home against the St. Louis Blues in a 2-1 victory in an overtime thriller over the weekend.
Matt Duchene’s coast-to-coast goal in overtime secured the win for the Stars over the Blues on Saturday night at American Airlines Center.
Duchene’s decisive goal came at 2:31 of the extra period, capping an end-to-end rush that started near his own goal line.
The win marked a milestone for Dallas, which earned its first victory this season when trailing after the opening period.
The Blues struck first in the game, with Jordan Kyrou netting his team-leading 12th goal in the first period.
However, Dallas responded in the second when Jason Robertson scored on the power play.
Robertson, the Stars’ leading scorer over the past two seasons, also recorded an assist in the game.
Goaltender Jake Oettinger was pivotal for the Stars, making 15 saves and improving his home record to 11-1-0.
A critical moment came in overtime when Oettinger stretched his left skate to deny a backhand attempt from Pavel Buchnevich, setting the stage for Duchene’s game-winning rush.
On the other side, Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington delivered a strong performance with 35 saves, including several crucial stops during Dallas’ three power plays in the second period.
The Stars outshot the Blues 14-3 in the period but managed just one goal.
Kyrou continued his hot streak for St. Louis, scoring in his third consecutive game and tallying five goals in his last six outings.
Robert Thomas, who assisted on Kyrou’s goal, extended his point streak to six games, amassing 11 points during that span.
St. Louis saw the debut of defenseman Cam Fowler, who was acquired from Anaheim earlier on Saturday.
Fowler logged nearly 18 minutes of ice time in his first game with the Blues.
Meanwhile, veteran forward Brandon Saad was a healthy scratch as he seeks to end a 13-game goalless drought.
The win keeps Dallas competitive in the Central Division race, while St. Louis looks to rebound as they continue to navigate injuries and lineup adjustments.
