At least four students were wounded Tuesday afternoon in a shooting at Wilmer-Hutchins High School, prompting an immediate lockdown and a chaotic scene as parents rushed to reunite with their children.
The Dallas Independent School District (DISD) confirmed the shooting occurred around 1:25 p.m. and said the campus was quickly secured.
A 17-year-old student was shot in the leg, according to FOX 4 Dallas, while the extent of the other injuries remains unclear.
Dallas City Councilman Tennell Atkins stated, ” We don’t have a serious injury right now to my knowledge.”
“Pray for the families, pray for the kids, pray for the students and thank God that no one is crucially injured at this minute Atkins told reporters.
At a press conference in front of Wilmer-Hutchins High School, Superintendent Stephanie S. Elizalde, Ed D, and other authorities told reporters that they have identified the suspect but have not yet confirmed any arrests.
Atkins told reporters that someone “opened the door” to the shooter before the incident unfolded.
DISD activated emergency safety protocols, barring unauthorized access to the campus.
By 3:30 p.m., parents and guardians were directed to Eagles Stadium for student reunification, where they were required to show a photo ID.
Video from the scene showed a heavy police and emergency response, including Dallas PD, fire units, and paramedics.
This marks the second shooting at the school in less than a year.
Following a previous incident, DISD implemented stricter security measures, including metal detectors and clear backpack requirements.
DISD has not yet released further details on the suspect’s motive or how the weapon entered the school.
The investigation remains ongoing.
