After falling short in the NBA Play-in Tournament, the Dallas Mavericks responded with a bold and aggressive offseason, headlined by winning the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery, re-signing key contributors, and adding new talent to reinforce their roster.
Dallas stunned the league by landing the No. 1 overall pick and used it to select Cooper Flagg, a 6-foot-9 forward from Duke, who is considered a generational talent.
Known for his elite two-way ability and basketball IQ, Flagg is expected to make an immediate impact alongside Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving.
Flagg joins a retooled roster that remains centered around All-NBA forward Anthony Davis, who was acquired midseason, and veteran guard Kyrie Irving, who recently signed a three-year, $120 million contract extension to remain in Dallas.
Irving, recovering from an ACL injury suffered late last season, is expected to miss significant time in the early part of the upcoming season.
To cover Irving’s absence and fortify the backcourt, the Mavericks signed D’Angelo Russell to a two-year, $13 million deal.
Russell, 28, averaged 12.6 points and 5.1 assists last season with the Lakers and Nets, and brings playoff experience and reliable shot creation.
The team also locked in defensive anchor Daniel Gafford to a three-year extension reportedly worth between $54 million and $60 million.
Gafford played a crucial role in the Mavs’ postseason run, offering rim protection, rebounding, and efficient scoring around the basket.
