St. Paul Lutheran Church and School in southern Dallas is preparing to celebrate its 150th anniversary by hosting a four-day international conference this summer.
The church, recently welcomed as a new member of the DeSoto Area Chamber of Commerce, will serve as the host site for the 2025 Black Ministry Family Convocation, taking place July 9–12.
The convocation is organized by the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod and is expected to draw attendees from across the United States, Canada, Africa, the Caribbean, and other regions.
The event will focus on empowering and advancing the next generation of church leaders, as the denomination approaches the 150th anniversary of its Black ministry outreach in 2027.
That outreach began in 1877 with the founding of the first Black Lutheran congregation.
During the convocation, the DeSoto Area Chamber of Commerce will host an official ribbon-cutting ceremony to recognize the church’s membership and long-standing presence in the Dallas community.

The ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, July 10, and will be part of a broader afternoon program featuring local and national church leaders.
St. Paul Lutheran Church has served its community for over a century as part of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod.
In 2019, the church expanded its ministry to include St. Paul Christian Academy, an early childhood education center providing affordable care and instruction for families in the area.
The academy offers full-time childcare, after-school programs, and community outreach services on the church’s campus.
The upcoming convocation is one of several events planned to honor the church’s 150-year legacy and its ongoing mission in education, service, and spiritual leadership.
