ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers have rattled off six straight wins, injecting new life into what had become a precarious playoff chase in the American League.
With less than three weeks remaining in the regular season, the streak could be their best chance to punch a postseason ticket.
In their most recent game, the Rangers completed a comeback against the New York Mets, winning 3-2 on late-inning heroics.
Trailing 2-0 entering the eighth, Texas tied the game with two runs before Wyatt Langford delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the ninth. Rowdy Tellez provided a key double in the rally.
Earlier in the stretch, rookies and fill-ins have fueled the surge.
Michael Helman crushed a grand slam to lift Texas to a shutout win over Milwaukee, while Jacob Latz delivered 5⅔ scoreless innings to stifle the Brewers.
Where the Streak Leaves Texas in the Playoff Picture
- Division race (AL West): The Rangers still trail the Houston Astros atop the division but have closed the gap to two games.
- Wild card: Texas is now firmly in contention for a postseason berth. They hold a one-game edge over Cleveland and remain just behind Seattle in the standings.
- Momentum and injuries: The Rangers have battled absences from key players such as Marcus Semien, Corey Seager and Evan Carter. Several rookies have stepped in and provided the spark the team needed.
- Remaining schedule: Texas faces tough matchups ahead, including a pivotal series against Houston. With fewer than 20 games left, every win looms large.
Outlook: Can They Keep It Going?
If the Rangers continue their current pace, two paths remain realistic:
- Win the AL West. To do so, they likely need to dominate head-to-head matchups with Houston and avoid slip-ups against struggling opponents.
- Secure a wild card. Even if the division crown slips away, maintaining their streak of clutch performances could be enough to clinch one of the league’s final playoff spots.
Either way, the Rangers have shifted momentum in their favor at the right time, giving fans reason to believe in October baseball.
