The City of DeSoto is introducing a new community program that will help residents who suffer from food insecurities connect with resources amid changes to SNAP benefits.
The program is called Helping Hands of DeSoto: A Community Relief Initiative, aimed at connecting residents with food resources amid growing concerns about food insecurity and recent changes to SNAP benefits during the federal government shutdown.
The initiative brings together city officials, local nonprofits, churches, and regional partners to expand access to meals, food pantries, and holiday food distributions throughout the season.
Mayor Rachel L. Proctor said the effort reflects the city’s long tradition of unity and compassion.
“Helping Hands is about making sure our residents know where to turn for help and that DeSoto stands ready to support them,” Proctor said in the city’s announcement.
Residents seeking assistance can find a directory of local food resources and community programs at www.desototexas.gov/helpinghands.
City officials have said that the page will be updated as new support opportunities become available.
City leaders also want to encourage residents to share the information with neighbors and families who may benefit, ensuring that no one in DeSoto faces hunger alone this season.
