H-E-B has announced a $6 million initiative to help feed hungry Texans and support vulnerable seniors.
The Texas grocer is giving $5 million to food banks and $1 million to Meals on Wheels programs across the state as food insecurity continues to rise.
One in six Texans is food insecure, and more than 22% of children and nearly 14% of seniors are at risk of hunger, according to Feeding Texas.
“At H-E-B, we are passionate about taking care of Texans,” said Winell Herron, a senior vice president at H-E-B. “We are proud of our long-standing partnership with organizations that support those in need.”
The $5 million will be distributed among food banks in the Feeding Texas network, helping provide meals and support to families in every region.
Celia Cole, CEO of Feeding Texas, called the donation “critical” as more families face tough choices between food and other basic needs.
H-E-B’s $1 million gift to Meals on Wheels Texas will help provide daily nutrition for homebound seniors.
Meals on Wheels delivers more than 100,000 meals every day to older Texans so they can continue living independently.
“H-E-B’s generosity not only provides nourishing meals but also delivers hope, connection, and compassion to those who need it most,” said Olivia Burdick, board president of Meals on Wheels Texas.
This effort builds on H-E-B’s Help End Hunger campaign, which recently raised $1 million for food banks with the help of customer donations.
The company also raised $500,000 to help feed pets in need.
Later this year, H-E-B will continue its Feast of Sharing events, serving meals at large gatherings across Texas and Mexico.
In 2024 alone, H-E-B donated 35 million pounds of food—part of more than 1.5 billion pounds given to 5,500 nonprofits since 1982.
