DALLAS — Vista Bank has appointed South Dallas native Lubbock D. Smith III as president of its South Dallas Banking Center, marking the first time a Black executive has held the title in the bank’s history.
Vista Bank, a division of NBH Bank, announced the leadership change Thursday, describing it as both historic and strategic as the institution continues expanding its footprint and community engagement in southern Dallas.
Smith, a longtime banker and advocate for economic development, has played a key role in growing Vista’s presence in South Dallas.
Bank officials said his work has focused on expanding access to capital, strengthening financial literacy initiatives and supporting entrepreneurs working to build long-term wealth within their communities.
“This moment is bigger than a title,” Smith said. “It represents progress, possibility, and a commitment to ensuring that communities — especially the Black community — have access to the banking relationships, capital, and opportunities necessary to change our trajectory and transform our neighborhoods. Vista Bank is daring to do what’s different, and I’m honored to lead that charge in South Dallas.”
In his new role, Smith will oversee operations at the South Dallas Banking Center and continue efforts to deepen relationships with local businesses and community leaders.
The bank said he will also focus on expanding financing opportunities and advancing programs designed to increase economic mobility.
NBH Bank Executive Vice Chair John D. Steinmetz said Smith’s appointment reflects both his performance and the bank’s long-term strategy.
“Lubbock exemplifies what it means to lead with vision, integrity, and purpose,” Steinmetz said. “His appointment is both historic and strategic and I couldn’t be prouder of this opportunity that he has earned through his hard work and dedication to growing as a banker while serving the S. Dallas community.”
Vista Bank, headquartered in Dallas, operates across North, Central and West Texas, as well as Palm Beach, Florida. The bank markets itself as the “Entrepreneurs’ Bank,” providing personal and commercial banking services with a focus on business growth and community-centered leadership.
