In honor of National Vietnam War Veterans Day, the DeSoto Veterans Affairs Committee is hosting a special event to honor veterans of the Vietnam War.

The special event takes place on Thursday, March 28, to honor the brave veterans who served during the Vietnam War.

The National Vietnam War Veterans Day Observance will begin at 12 noon at the Corner Theatre near the flag poles on Pleasant Run Rd.

The event is free to all who wish to attend, and free lunches will be provided.

This event is a celebration of valor and sacrifice to honor local heroes who served in the military during the Vietnam War.

Local veterans are invited to join in commemorating the service and sacrifice of Vietnam War veterans.

In late Nov. 2023, the National Rakkasans Association, along with the United States Army’s 187th Infantry Regiment, honored hometown hero James Baylor.

Baylor, now 81 years old, was a U.S. Army Specialist in the 187th Infantry Regiment and was honored with more than 10 awards.

Baylor also received a Presidential Unit Citation for his heroism in the Battle of Hamburger Hill.

He received the honors 54 years after the battle in DeSoto at city hall.
