DeSoto Police captured a man wanted for murder in Dallas following a detailed investigation by the department.
Officers took 25-year-old Lewis Ray Harper Jr. into custody on Feb. 27 in Lancaster after detectives used special software to identify him.
Police used facial recognition technology to identify him from body-worn camera footage recorded during a recent foot pursuit.
The Dallas Police Department had wanted Harper in connection with a 2020 homicide.
After analyzing the footage and conducting days of surveillance, DeSoto police tracked him to a Lancaster motel.
He was arrested without incident during a traffic stop near the DeSoto-Lancaster border according to police.
DeSoto Police Chief Costa praised the Criminal Investigations Division for their diligence and use of advanced technology in solving cases.
The department took to Facebook to thank and “acknowledge the efforts of the DeSoto Criminal Investigations Division (CID), Bravo, and Alpha Shift Officers.”
