A group of local athletes is proving that age is no barrier to competition, camaraderie, and staying active.
The DeSoto Legends, a senior softball team made up of players ages 65 and older, represents the city in a regional division that includes nine teams from across North Texas.
Competing teams hail from Richardson, McKinney, Farmers Branch, Lewisville and Mesquite, providing a consistent level of competition throughout the season.
The Legends play games twice a week, taking the field every Tuesday and Thursday morning from April through September, weather permitting.
Over the past year, the team completed a 36-game schedule, demonstrating both consistency and commitment from its players.
Beyond competition, the team serves as a platform for healthy living and social connection among older adults. Players remain active through regular games while building relationships that extend beyond the field.
Team organizers say they are focused on recruiting additional players to join the roster, with the goal of expanding participation and encouraging more residents in the 65-and-older age group to stay physically active.
The team is open to experienced players as well as those looking to return to the sport after time away.
The Legends’ presence reflects a broader effort to promote wellness and engagement among seniors in the DeSoto community.
By maintaining a structured schedule and competitive environment, the team offers an opportunity for older adults to remain involved in athletics while supporting one another.
Community members interested in joining or learning more about the DeSoto Legends are encouraged to reach out to the team for additional information.
