The City of DeSoto officially marked the opening of its new Aquatic and Recreation Center at McCowan Park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, drawing a large crowd and signaling the completion of one of the city’s most significant recreational investments.
A walkthrough of the facility highlights a space designed to deliver a modern, full-scale recreation and wellness experience, with features that extend well beyond a traditional city rec center.
The ARC’s fitness floor is expansive and fully equipped with updated strength and conditioning machines, free weights, and functional training areas.
The layout prioritizes space and movement, allowing for both individual workouts and group training without congestion.
Dedicated studios, including a cycling room lined with bikes and mirrored walls, support structured fitness programming while maintaining flexibility for independent use.
A designated recovery area, which includes a cryotherapy unit, reflects a broader shift toward comprehensive wellness offerings within municipal facilities.
The indoor aquatic center serves as a focal point of the building. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide natural light and views into McCowan Park, while the multi-use pool is designed for both leisure and fitness activities.
Throughout the facility, elevated walkways and open corridors create clear sightlines across different sections, reinforcing the building’s scale and modern design.
Outdoor balcony areas extend the experience into the surrounding park space.
The gymnasium includes multiple full courts that can host basketball, volleyball, and large community events, positioning the ARC as a central hub for programming and gatherings.
Design elements, including large-scale wall graphics and contemporary finishes, reflect a coordinated effort to align the facility with DeSoto’s continued growth and investment in public infrastructure.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony officially opened the doors to residents, with the day drawing a strong turnout from across the community.

Attendees participated in guided tours, explored the facility’s amenities, and gathered throughout the space as music from a live DJ played across the venue.
Local food trucks, including Tasmanian Mobile Kitchen, were on-site serving attendees, adding to the event atmosphere and community engagement.
City leaders, including the mayor, mayor pro tem, and the City Manager, emphasized the ARC’s role as a long-term investment in community wellness, youth development, and economic growth.
Among those in attendance was Von Miller, a DeSoto native, whose presence added to the significance of the event as the city celebrated a project aimed at serving future generations.
The opening marks the transition from construction to full community use, with the ARC expected to play a key role in expanding access to health, wellness, and recreational opportunities while strengthening DeSoto’s position as a growing destination in the Best Southwest region.
