A nonprofit organization that opened earlier this year is preparing to host two August events aimed at supporting families facing food insecurity while raising money to expand its services.
MT Hope House of Texas will host its “Power Up for Success!” back-to-school giveaway on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its facility, 201 Executive Way, Suite 160, in DeSoto.
The free event will provide school supplies, food assistance and access to community resources for children and families preparing for the new school year. Organizers said supplies will be available while they last.
The nonprofit opened in April and operates a customer-choice food pantry serving DeSoto and surrounding communities.
Since opening, the organization says it has distributed more than 150,000 pounds of food and served nearly 1,800 people through its pantry and community support programs.
Beyond food assistance, MT Hope House describes itself as a community resource hub that connects residents with workforce development, financial literacy, wellness initiatives and other support services designed to help families achieve long-term stability.
The organization also will host Western Purse Bingo on Friday, Aug. 14, at the DeSoto Civic Center.
The fundraiser begins at 6 p.m. and will feature designer handbags as bingo prizes, along with raffles for sunglasses, handbags and gift cards. Light refreshments also will be available.
Advance tickets are $50, with admission increasing to $55 at the door. Proceeds will support the nonprofit’s food pantry and community programs.
MT Hope House’s food pantry is open five days a week and provides assistance to individuals, families, seniors and veterans experiencing food insecurity or temporary financial hardship.
The pantry follows a customer-choice model, allowing visitors to select food items based on their household’s needs rather than receiving prepackaged food boxes.
The nonprofit, a 501(c)(3) organization, says its mission is to address immediate needs through food assistance while helping residents move toward long-term self-sufficiency through education, employment resources and community partnerships.
