A Lancaster man has been charged with aggravated robbery after DeSoto police said he stole merchandise from a convenience store and attacked two people with a razor during a confrontation in the parking lot.
Police responded about 10:25 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17, to a convenience store in the 1500 block of Interstate 35E frontage road after a caller reported seeing several people fighting near the storefront.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found several people in the parking lot, including a man who was bleeding heavily from his right hand, according to the DeSoto Police Department.
Police identified the man as 36-year-old Willie James Richardson III of Lancaster.
Officers detained Richardson and arranged for him to receive medical treatment.
Witnesses told police that Richardson had taken several items from inside the store without paying.
When a store clerk confronted him in the parking lot, Richardson allegedly attempted to assault the clerk and a customer who intervened, police said.
Police said Richardson then retrieved a razor from his vehicle and attacked both people.
The clerk and customer suffered minor defensive injuries, according to police.
Richardson also cut his hand with the razor during the confrontation and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
He was charged with aggravated robbery.
Police did not release additional information about what merchandise was allegedly taken.
The DeSoto Police Department credited witnesses with quickly reporting the disturbance and providing information to dispatchers and responding officers.
