DALLAS — District play opened Friday night with mixed results for three Best Southwest high school football programs, as Lancaster and Cedar Hill earned victories while Duncanville dropped its second consecutive game.
The results set up a District 8-5A Division I matchup next week between Lancaster and Cedar Hill, while Duncanville will look to rebound on the road against Red Oak.
Cedar Hill earns first win of season
Cedar Hill broke into the win column with a 38-28 road victory over Midlothian, giving the Longhorns their first victory of the season and a 1-0 start in District 8-5A Division I.
The 38 points marked Cedar Hill’s highest offensive output through four games. The Longhorns entered Friday following losses to Crowley, Duncanville and Frisco Lone Star before improving to 1-3 overall. Midlothian fell to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in district play.
Cedar Hill returns home to face Lancaster at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25. Both teams enter the matchup undefeated in district play.
Lancaster extends winning streak
Lancaster continued its turnaround after a season-opening loss, defeating Mansfield Summit 21-7 at Beverly D. Humphrey Tiger Stadium.
The Tigers scored seven points in each of the first three quarters and held Summit scoreless in the second half. Lancaster improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in District 8-5A Division I.
Lancaster has won three consecutive games since opening the season with a 35-0 loss at North Shore. The Tigers followed that defeat with victories over Arlington Seguin, North Forney and Mansfield Summit.
Summit fell to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in district play.
Lancaster will travel to Cedar Hill on Friday for an early district matchup between two teams looking to remain unbeaten in league play.
Duncanville falls to unbeaten North Crowley
Duncanville’s early-season struggles continued Friday as North Crowley defeated the Panthers 47-30 in the District 11-6A opener.
North Crowley improved to 4-0 and scored a season-high 47 points. Duncanville fell to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in district play.
The loss was Duncanville’s second in a row following a 21-20 defeat against DeSoto on Sept. 12. Duncanville’s lone victory came Sept. 4, when the Panthers defeated Cedar Hill 34-7. The Panthers opened the season with a 26-7 road loss to Allen.
North Crowley entered district play unbeaten after victories over Aledo, Southlake Carroll and Summer Creek. The Panthers defeated those three opponents by a combined 127-30 before adding Duncanville to their undefeated start.
Duncanville will attempt to get back on track when it travels to Red Oak for a district matchup at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25.
