The third annual Not My Son ‘Picture This’ gala was held on December 3, at the High Points Event Center in Dallas.
Hosted by LeTitia Owens of Owens Media Productions, the gala shines a spotlight on local community leaders who have made an impact within the communities in Dallas.
Not my Son is a black woman led nonprofit 501-c3 organization and led by founder Tramonica Brown, dedicated to improving and reforming city and national systems.
“I am truly honored to share a night of celebration with the DFW community as we picture what Not My Son will grow into – especially as we step into a new season of servitude and impact in the community,” said Brown speaking to The DeSoto Tribune.
“We look forward to inviting supporters, advocates, stakeholders, and the community to this celebratory event.”
The gala featured performances from the Dallas Black Dance Theater and a performance by Addison Grace Mouser of Brown Girls Do Ballet.
Notable attendees at the gala and honorary chairs included the City of Desoto’s City Council Place 6 Crystal Chism and Dallas City Council District 7 Adam Bazaldua.
“I think the event is incredible, with the amount of support and I think it’s also something that is worth celebrating when you’ve hit 10,000 people that’s being served,” said Bazaldua speaking to The DeSoto Tribune.
“To see an organization that has elevated themselves from grassroots within three years to being able to say they’ve served 10,000 people is one that partners at the city, partners at the county need to start recognizing. I think that they’ve passed the tier of that grassroots level and we need to start giving more support and resources so that this work can get amplified,” Bazaldua explained.
The response to Brown and NMS by residents in Bazaldua’s district has received an overwhelming response.
“The residents of Dallas’s response to the “Purple Shirts” has been amazing,” said Brown to The DeSoto Tribune.
“We go out into the community and build community bonds with the families we impact. Whether it’s at our annual Back 2 School drive or our monthly South Dallas Project Day where we feed the homeless and clean up the environment it is always a feeling of family, Brown explained.
NMS serves residents in the South Dallas and Pleasant Grove area through social activism, civic engagements, and community outreach.
