Pierette Parker has won the DeSoto City Council Place 2 runoff, defeating Cora Garner in a race that brought voters back to the polls after no candidate received a majority in the May general election.
According to unofficial results posted by Dallas County, Parker received 1,209 votes, or 55.18%, while Garner received 982 votes, or 44.82%, in the June 13 runoff. A total of 2,191 ballots were cast.
Parker led in early voting and on Election Day.
She received 789 early in-person votes, 102 mail ballots and 318 Election Day votes. Garner received 616 early in-person votes, 141 mail ballots and 225 Election Day votes.
After the runoff, Parker thanked supporters in a social media post and described the victory as a community effort.
“This is NOT a ‘ME’ win. This is a ‘WE’ win,” Parker wrote.
Parker thanked voters, campaign volunteers, poll workers and supporters who placed yard signs, sent text messages, encouraged residents to vote, shared polling site photos, provided meals or adjusted their schedules to help the campaign.
“This is a Community Win, and I am deeply grateful for every single one of you,” Parker wrote.
The city said the results were provided by Dallas County and reflected totals reported as of 9:54 p.m. on election night. The results remain unofficial until canvassed and certified.
The runoff followed the May 2 general election, when Garner finished first but fell short of the majority needed to win the seat outright.
Garner received 1,738 votes, or 47.8%, in the May election. Parker received 1,629 votes, or 44.8%, while Tymerian Oluwole received 269 votes, or 7.4%.
The top two candidates advanced to a runoff because no candidate received more than 50% of the vote.
The Place 2 race was one of two DeSoto City Council seats on the May ballot.
Brian Wesley won the Place 4 race outright and will serve as the new council member for that seat, according to the city. Wesley defeated David “DaWud” Edgerson and write-in candidate Keisha Nixon.
The latest results finalize DeSoto’s 2026 municipal election cycle, pending certification of the runoff totals.
Parker’s victory came after Garner led the May general election, while Parker gained enough support in the runoff to win the seat.
