NEW YORK — Jessica Shepard recorded her third triple-double of the season Tuesday night, leading the Dallas Wings to an 88-77 win over the New York Liberty.
Shepard finished with 22 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists as Dallas improved to 14-8. The performance made her just the second player in WNBA history to record three triple-doubles in a season.
The win continues a strong stretch for the Wings, who have become one of North Texas’ top sports stories during a season of growing attention for women’s basketball.
Dallas earned its eighth road win of the season after totaling just six road victories over the previous two seasons.
The Wings took control in the second quarter, outscoring New York 29-11 and building a 47-31 halftime lead.
The Liberty made a push after halftime, but Dallas held off the rally behind Shepard’s all-around play and timely scoring from its backcourt.
Paige Bueckers added 15 points for Dallas, while Azzi Fudd scored 12. Awak Kuier added 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Breanna Stewart led New York with 29 points, and Jonquel Jones added 17 points and 12 rebounds. The Liberty fell to 13-9.
The victory adds to a season in which the Wings are drawing more attention on and off the court.
Shepard and Bueckers were named WNBA All-Star starters last week, giving Dallas two starters in the July 25 All-Star Game in Chicago.
For North Texas, the Wings’ rise connects professional basketball, youth sports, women’s athletics and the growing business of the WNBA.
