Gas prices are climbing again, adding another cost for drivers as renewed tensions between the United States and Iran continue to pressure global oil markets.
Local station listings in DeSoto show regular unleaded gas ranging from $3.29 to $3.94 per gallon this week. Way.com listed the following regular gas prices in DeSoto:
- Tom Thumb, 214 E. Pleasant Run Road: $3.29
- Walmart Neighborhood Market, 108 W. Parkerville Road: $3.37
- QuikTrip, 1235 Belt Line Road: $3.55
- Exxon, 102 E. Belt Line Road: $3.94
The listed prices were reported July 7 and may change throughout the day.
The local increase comes as the Dallas-area average for regular unleaded reached $3.291 per gallon, up from $3.195 the previous day and $3.267 a week earlier, according to AAA.
For DeSoto residents, the higher prices can add up quickly.
Many drivers rely on daily commutes along Interstate 35E, Belt Line Road, Hampton Road and Pleasant Run Road.
Small increases at the pump can affect families, hourly workers, delivery drivers and small businesses that depend on transportation.
The pressure is tied partly to renewed instability in the Middle East.
Reuters reported Thursday that oil prices eased slightly after earlier gains as markets weighed renewed U.S.-Iran conflict and the risk of disruption near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy routes.
Reuters reported that about 20% of global oil supplies moved through the strait before the Iran conflict. Any disruption in that area can quickly affect crude oil prices, shipping costs and fuel markets.
While oil prices shifted Thursday, the local effect remains clear: DeSoto drivers are paying more than they were a month ago at several stations across the city.
