DALLAS — Families filled the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center for SummerFest, a Juneteenth celebration that brought together history, culture, local vendors and family fun.
The event drew a strong turnout, with residents gathering throughout the day to celebrate freedom and community.
Vendors lined the event space, children played in bounce houses and families cooled off on water slides as the summer heat added to the festival atmosphere.

Sponsors and community partners, including Sprouts, McKesson, 97.9 The Beat and others, helped support the event and create a welcoming environment for residents of all ages.
The celebration carried the spirit of Juneteenth beyond entertainment. For many families, the day served as a reminder of the generations who endured, resisted and built paths toward freedom.
Parents watched children laugh and play in a space named for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., adding another layer of meaning to a celebration rooted in Black history, resilience and progress.
Throughout the event, SummerFest reflected the humanity of Juneteenth.
It could be seen in children racing toward water slides, vendors sharing their products with pride, families greeting one another like neighbors and elders watching younger generations celebrate a history they are still learning to understand.
The event also highlighted the role of community spaces such as the MLK Center in South Dallas. More than a gathering place, the center served as a backdrop for fellowship, remembrance and celebration.
As music played and families moved between activities, SummerFest offered a balance of joy and reflection.
The event gave residents a chance to honor the meaning of Juneteenth while enjoying a family-centered celebration built around culture, connection and community pride.
