DALLAS — Trial attorney Chalon Clark has spent years making arguments before juries. Now, she’s making design decisions before a national television audience.
Clark, a trial attorney at one of the nation’s largest law firms and founder of the Dallas-based interior design firm Design Redefined, is among the contestants competing on the new season of HGTV’s “Renovation Resort Showdown,” which premiered July 1.
The reality competition pairs four contractor and designer teams as they renovate waterfront cabins at a lakeside resort, with each duo vying for a $100,000 grand prize.
Hosted by Scott McGillivray and Bryan Baeumler, the series challenges contestants to balance creativity, construction, budgets and deadlines while transforming vacation properties into destination retreats.

Clark is competing alongside contractor Liz Truluck, bringing an unconventional background to a field often associated with full-time designers.
“People are often surprised to learn that the same skills that make me successful as a trial lawyer translate directly into design,” Clark said in the announcement. “Both require listening carefully, solving complex problems, advocating for a vision, and paying attention to every detail. Whether I’m preparing for a trial or designing a space, my goal is the same: to create something intentional, impactful, and meaningful.”
Clark has also established herself in the design industry through Design Redefined, where she specializes in creating interiors that reflect clients’ personal stories and cultural influences.
Her work has appeared in Martha Stewart Living, House Beautiful and other design publications.
Clark said she hopes her television appearance encourages others who have built successful careers but still aspire to pursue other passions.
“I hope I’m an inspiration to anyone who feels stuck in a career that no longer reflects everything they are,” Clark said. “Your passions don’t have to die because you’ve become successful in one area of life. You can make room for them. I’m still a trial lawyer, but I’ve also built a design business and now find myself on HGTV. You don’t have to choose just one version of yourself.”
Clark’s appearance on the nationally televised competition highlights another North Texas professional showcasing local talent on a national stage.
Throughout the season, contestants will face renovation challenges designed to test their creativity, project management skills and ability to work under pressure.
The winning team will receive the $100,000 grand prize and the title of resort renovation champion.
Clark said the opportunity allows her to demonstrate that professional success does not have to be limited to a single career path.
New episodes of “Renovation Resort Showdown” air on HGTV and are available to stream on Max.
