One of the most prolific football players to come through DeSoto is returning to North Texas.
DeSoto High School graduate Von Miller has agreed to join the Dallas Cowboys on a one-year deal, bringing the veteran pass rusher closer to where his football career began as he prepares for his 15th NFL season.
For DeSoto, the move carries significance beyond another Cowboys roster addition.
Long before Miller became a Super Bowl MVP and one of the NFL’s most accomplished defensive players, he wore the green and gold at DeSoto High School.
He graduated in 2007 before continuing his career at Texas A&M, where he developed into one of college football’s premier pass rushers.
The Denver Broncos selected Miller with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft, and he went on to earn eight Pro Bowl selections and multiple All-Pro honors and was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Miller reached one of the highest points of his career when he earned Super Bowl 50 MVP honors after helping Denver defeat the Carolina Panthers for the championship following the 2015 season.
His former hometown community celebrated that accomplishment in 2016 when DeSoto proclaimed April 16 as Von Miller Day.

A decade later, Miller is preparing to play professionally only a short drive from the high school where he emerged as one of North Texas’ top football prospects.
The 37-year-old enters the season with 138.5 career sacks and remains the NFL’s active leader in the category.
Miller recorded nine sacks with the Washington Commanders during the 2025 season, his highest total since recording 9.5 while playing for Denver and the Los Angeles Rams in 2021.
Miller won his second Super Bowl championship with the Rams following the 2021 season.
He later joined the Buffalo Bills before spending the 2025 season in Washington.
Dallas is expected to use Miller as part of its pass-rush rotation, adding an experienced veteran to a defensive front that includes younger players the Cowboys are continuing to develop.
The move also brings Miller closer to a franchise he has been connected to at different points during his career.
Miller publicly expressed interest in playing for Dallas during the offseason before the two sides eventually reached an agreement.
For Cowboys fans, the move adds an accomplished veteran to the defense.
For DeSoto, it carries another meaning. A player who began building his football legacy as an Eagle will now play his home games in North Texas.
Miller’s NFL career has taken him from Denver to Los Angeles, Buffalo and Washington.
His next stop brings him back to the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Miller’s career has taken him across the NFL, but his connection to DeSoto has remained part of his story.
