Lady Eagles Soaring High in District Play

In their quest for another championship, the DeSoto Lady Eagles are soaring ever higher, riding an eight-game winning streak.

The Lady Eagles traveled to Mansfield, blowing out the Tigers 61-11 to close out the regular season and avenging an early district loss to Duncanville.

The avenging loss against top-ranked Duncanville sent the DeSoto faithful into a frenzy.

“The girls played hard, they played great and executed on the court,” said DeSoto Head Coach Andrea Robinson.

In a clash between high school basketball powerhouses, DeSoto’s senior guard, Mylasia Smith, etched her name in the annals of the sport with a clutch 3-pointer that secured the 53-48 triumph over Duncanville.

The showdown between the nation’s 21st-ranked DeSoto and No. 11 Duncanville lived up to its billing, showcasing skill and a nail-biting finish.

DeSoto’s dominance inside was undeniable, as its talented sophomore trio of 6-2 Kamora Pruitt (15 points), 6-2 Amari Byles (12 points), and 5-11 Amayah Garcia (11 points) combined for 38 points, including 19 in the second half.

Pruitt and Garcia added to their stellar performance by coming up with back-to-back steals on Duncanville’s two possessions after Smith’s game-changing 3-pointer.

With 44 seconds remaining on the clock, with the score deadlocked at 48-48, Smith sunk a go-ahead 3-pointer.

This pivotal shot halted Duncanville’s 12-game winning streak and avenged a narrow 52-51 loss earlier in the season.

Senior guard Nisaa Muhammad played a crucial role in sealing the victory, converting three of four free throws in the final 17 seconds.

With wins over Cedar Hill, Duncanville, and Mansfield, it propels DeSoto within striking distance of District 11-6A leader Duncanville.
